End of 2017 League(s), beginning of 2018 plans…

2017party (8 of 29)

Friday 21st of July saw a wonderful gathering of women cyclists, and women’s cycling supporters at Rapha Spitalfields for the LWR 2017 Leagues Prize-giving and Party! Snacks were had, an incredible LWR-on-brand-coloured cake was cut, and chair Beth Hodge welcomed everyone as part of her last event with LWR, after several incredibly successful years.

The full and final list of prize winners can be found on the specific pages for the Crit/RR League and the TT League. It was brilliant to have so many of the winners in attendance, and we were delighted to give out an array of incredible prizes, from bike insurance, physio sessions, stash, free kit, TurboBeat sessions, bike fits, books, and money-can’t-buy experiences, like the opportunity to meet Canyon-SRAM riders at this year’s Ride London Classique. Chapeau, ladies! To see some photos from the day, have a look at the facebook gallery on the LWR group.

Farewells, welcomes.

Chapeau, Beth!

Outgoing chair Beth Hodge was given a beautiful bunch of flowers for her years of hard work steering LWR to strength and success, and she was also able to announce that TT Co-Secretary Julie Chasin will succeed her as Chair. Julie has a bunch of great plans for 2018, and we’re really excited about the fresh ideas that she’s going to bring to the role.
A couple more committee members will be moving on – Jane Dennyson is retiring as Membership Secretary, after serving since the inception of LWR, and Hannah Nicklin is stepping down as Social Media Secretary to concentrate on her own racing as she moves to race at a National level in 2018.

LWR needs you!

This means we’re particularly looking for volunteers to start handover for these two roles in particular, and any general expressions of interest of people who might be able to volunteer some time to support women’s racing in London and the SE.

  • Social Media Secretary – responsible for Twitter, FB, Instagram, and the blog.
  • Membership Secretary – largely responsible for managing Rider HQ and managing the membership info.
  • General volunteers – if you’d like to give some of your time but aren’t sure where you might fit in, we always need race day and event volunteers, and are eager to think about new ways LWR can work in 2018, so please, drop us a line even if the above two roles don’t quite fit you.

The roles can be shared, and can flex to your availability, a lot of our comms are done over WhatsApp and email, and can be light touch, or more involved if you have the time. If you have even the slightest inclination to get involved, just get in touch with us over email at londonwomensracing [a] gmail.com and put ‘Volunteer’ in the title of your email. We can provide you with more info on current roles, and/or chat more about our plans for the next season and if there’s something in particular you can help with, work out how best to fit you in. It’s incredibly rewarding, promise!

The 2017 committee (less Alex Jump)

The rest of the committee will stay on; Viv Tomlin, Kathryn Morris, JC, Alex Jump, Libby Gordon; and they should also be thanked for their hard work and commitment in volunteering to keep LWR running smoothly.

Thanks finally to our sponsors, all of whom can be found over here, and particularly to Rapha, who both hosted the event, supported the league with prizes and offered the women in attendance 20% off on the day!

Congrats to all who raced in our 2017 leagues, and don’t fear, you’ll hear from us soon on our upcoming plans!
