We want everyone to enjoy racing and get the most from it. That’s best achieved when everyone has the skills and confidence to ride safely. We don’t insist that you take part in a training session before joining the league, but we do strongly encourage it, and to entice you to come along, we will award 10 league points just for turning up!*
*10 points are awarded to LWR members who attend an LWR affiliated crit/road training date. Only one set of training points available per LWR league calendar.
Upcoming training dates will be posted here, so keep checking in.
2016 saw our first Cyclocross training day held at Cyclopark, Gravesend and was run by BC coaches Huw Williams and Caroline Stewart.
Riders covered cx essentials such as dismounting, shouldering and remounting and how to effectively navigate through sand, over hurdles and down steep dropoffs.

Working with our partner Huw Williams from British Cycling, we ran a LWR women’s only race-training session on 28th February at the Cyclopark in Gravesend, Kent. We’re thrilled that more than 100 women took park, receiving instruction from qualified British Cycling coaches under Huw’s expert supervision. A massive thank you also goes out to the experienced racers from Les Filles, Drops Cycling Team and Matrix Pro Cycling who rode alongside the women to provide extra guidance.
Here’s a taster of the tweets and Facebook comments about the day:
“Cycling on the track with that many women was an amazing experience, and the instruction from the coaches and pro riders was fantastic!”
“What a great day – thank you so much. In particular thank you to the rider who helped me in the chain gang and never let me be dropped.”
“It was really exceptional and so encouraging to see so many women riders keen to get stuck into racing… Chapeau!”
“Big thanks to @LDNwomensracing & the coaches for today’s race training, great to see so many women! Feeling ready to race now”
